Estherville – Services for Mrs. Homer (Hertha) Christ, 80, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Tuesday, May 12, 1987 at her home.Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-9 p.m. Thursday.
Hertha Verna Schoening was born June 1, 1906 at Manning, the daughter of Ferdinand and Mary (Lakeman) Schoening. She attended Manning schools. On Nov. 24, 1931 she was united in marriage with Charles Home Christ at Huron, S.D. She lived most of her life in Estherville where she was employed by the Estherville High School and Junior College in Food Service until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the United Transportation Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Ernie (Janet) Harvego, Estherville and Mrs. L.R. (Mary) Thomas, Mankato, Minn.; one son Charles H. Christ, Minneapolis; five grandchildren: Douglas and Curtis Harvego; Charles H. and Robert Christ and Chelsea Thomas; one great-granddaughter, Alysha Maree Harvego; one brother Emil Schoening, Los Angeles; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Ridley, Estherville and Mrs. John (Vera) Voth, Windom, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer on April 2, 1950; parents; three brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 14, 1987)
