Estherville – Funeral services for Ruth Obye, 97, of Estherville, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 1997 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating, Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. She died on Tues., May 20 at her home in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born on May 23, 1909 in Estherville, the daughter of Charles S. and Alice J. (Miller) Nourse. She received her education in the Estherville schools graduating from Estherville High School in 1927. After her graduation she was employed as a secretary for two years and then embarked on her life-long career as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was united in marriage to Louis “Pete” Obye on May 3, 1930 in Estherville.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville and the United Methodist Woman. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the Altar Unit. She was an active member of the Garden Club and the longtime treasurer of the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, both of Estherville.
She is survived by her husband, Louis, of Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathryn) Tompkins of Spirit Lake; granddaughters, Suzanne Minnich of San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Larry (Nancy) McCourt of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Mike (Diane) Stoddard of Boise, Idaho; and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Muehlethaler of Albert Lea, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 22, 1997)
