Estherville – Services for Leon C. Blake, 97, will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Wendel officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Wednesday, May 29, 1991 in Lutz Wing of Fairmont Community Hospital.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.

He was born April 17, 1894 at Terre Haute, Ind., the son of Fred and Ella (Casey) Blake and attended Terre Haute Schools and Indiana State University, graduating in 1917. On Nov. 6, 1913 he was united in marriage with Bess Moore at Terre Haute. The couple moved to Estherville in 1918 where he was employed by the Rock Island Railroad working as a welder and machinist. After the roundhouse closed he moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Allis Chalmers as a welder. He retired in 1967 and returned to Estherville. He has been a resident of the Lutz Wing since July of 1987.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Implement Workers of America, UAW and Emmet County Historical Society.

Survivors include one son Tim, and two nieces: Mrs. Maxine Payne and Mrs. Elouise Brown both of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. 11, 1984; parents, one infant daughter, one son, Fred, and a sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 1, 1991)
