Estherville – Services for Henry Alfred Whitacre, 99, Estherville, were held today at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Kenneth Fogleman of the Friendship Tabernacle officiating. Inerment was in East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Whitacre died Friday, Oct. 7, 1977, at the Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.

He was born March 12, 1878, at Shannon, Ill., and received his education in Shannon schools. He was married to Ida Mae Pickel [Pickell] at Gruver on July 4, 1918, and the couple lived in Gruver where Mr. Whitacre was an employee of the Rock Island Railroad for 26 years. The couple then moved to Estherville, where he has been a resident for the past 34 years, including resident of the Good Samaritan Center for the past five years.

Mr. Whitacre is survived by five sons, Cecil L. Whitacre, Cottonwood, Calif., Eugene A. Whitacre, Belvidere, Ill., John J. Whitacre, Charles H. Whitacre, and Melvin Whitacre, all of Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Delver (Trella) DeVoss, Pocatello, Idaho, Mrs. Vernon (Henrietta) Peterson, South Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Harry (Leona) Fisher, Estherville; 28 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 10, 1977)
