Mrs. Henry Whitacre Services Saturday
Mrs. Henry A. (Ida Mae) Whitacre, 72, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 1972, at Good Samaritan Center. She had suffered a stroke on Tuesday. She was the first person born in Gruver and a lifetime resident of area.Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, and interment will be made in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at any time Friday and until time of services Saturday at Fuhrman’s.
She was born May 7, 1900, at Gruver to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pickel who had moved there from Swan Lake. She received her education in Gruver schools and was married July 4, 1918, to Henry A. Whitacre of Gruver. Her husband was employed by the Rock Island Railroad at Gruver.
Mrs. Whitacre was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and of the Friendship Tabernacle.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; five sons, Cecil of San Jose, Calif., Eugene of Belvidere, Ill., John J., Charles and Melvin of Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Delmer (Trella) DeVoss of Pocatello, Idaho, Mrs. Vernon (Henrietta) Peterson of South Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Harry (Leona) Fisher of Estherville; 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Pickel of Freeport, Ill., and Donald Pickel of Estherville; five sisters, Mrs. Marie Smith, Whitacre of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Norman Andrews and Mrs. Ike Sampson of Gruver and Mrs. George Fisher of Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and one granddaughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 30, 1972)
