Mrs. Fern Nerdig of Buffalo Center, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Nerdig and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Nerdig and Mrs. and Mrs. Larry Nerdig of Forest City, attended funeral services for Fern Nerdig’s nephew, Donald Wentworth, 53, in Centerville [Estherville] on Saturday afternoon. Swea-Eagle – Funeral services for Donald E. Wentworth, 53, of rural Estherville, were Saturday, April 21, at Calvary Gospel Assembly in Estherville with interment in the East Side Cemetery in Estherville. Rev. David Ogren officiated. Henry and Olson Funeral Home of Estherville were in charge of arrangements.Mr. Wentworth died at his home of an apparent cardiac arrest.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Omundson, Albert Holmgren, James Reinders and John McManness.
Active casketbearers were Terry Clark, John Metzger, Gerald Pluth, Eldon Cummins, Alvin Olson and Kenneth Pilquist.
Born Oct. 5, 1930 in Kossuth County, Mr. Wentworth received his education at Ledyard, graduating with the class of 1949. He married Deloris Skogen Oct. 12, 1960 at Frost, Minn., and lived all his life in Kossuth and Emmet counties. He owned and operated a produce business in Ringsted for 5 years; drove a truck for Campbell Soup Co. for 10 years; and the last 16 years worked for John Morrell Co. in Estherville. He also drove for Winnebago Industries of Forest City, delivering recreational vehicles coast-to-coast.
Mr. Wentworth was a member of Calvary Gospel Assembly Church in Estherville, served on the church board, and was a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris; daughters: Kathleen Lenon, Aurora, Colo.; Charlene, Mrs. Doug Conklin of Spencer; and son, Dan of Sioux Falls, S.D. There are 6 grandchildren.
Other survivors are his mother, Mrs. Alberdena Wentworth of Buffalo Center; brothers, Harold of Ledyard, John of LeSuerer, Minn., Delbert of Lakota, and Melvin of Hutchinson, Minn.; and sisters, Lillian, Mrs. Elmer Hamlin of Eau Gallie, Fla., Iona, Mrs. Alvin Richardson of Swea City, Mrs. Pearl Lilyerd of Corona, Calif., and Mrs. Vivian McDermot of Mankato, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father and 2 sons. (Kossuth County Advance, Algona, IA, April 28, 1984)
