Orval Smith Rites Pending
Orval (Abe) V. Smith, 7, Estherville, formerly of Superior, died at 5:14 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 1973, at Holy Family Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Reese-Henry Funeral home, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1973)

Smith Rites Held Today
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) for Orval (Abe) V. Smith, Estherville, who died Feb. 12, 1973, at the age of 66. The Rev. Richard Pearson officiated at Methodist services, held at the Estherville Lutheran Church. Burial was made in East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born April 14, 1906, in Fayette, Ind., to Charles and Naomi Schenck Smith. He was educated in Fayette schools. On August 2, 1928, he married to Altamay Aalborg in Nashua. They farmed in the Estherville and Superior area until 1958 when they retired and moved into Estherville. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Altamay, Estherville; two sons, Jerry Smith, Presho, S.D., and Roger Smith, Minneapolis; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Verla) Peterson, Mrs. Alan (Ardis) Hanson, both of Estherville, and Mrs. Stan (Charlene) Thomsen, Grinnell; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, S.G. Smith, Scott City, Kan., C.J. Smith, Lake Wilson, Minn., Rex Smith, Fairmont and Robert Smith, Rapid City, S.D.; one sister, Mrs. Doris Harris, Lynn, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 14, 1973)
