Mrs. Walter Swanson Diues at Age of 70
Mrs. Walter R. (Jettie) Sampson, 70, died yesterday at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital of a heart attack. Mrs. Swanson had been in good health until yesterday morning when she suffered a first attack and was taken at once to the hospital. She rested comfortably there and conversed with her daughter, Mrs. James Simpson, until the sudden seizure which resulted in her death.

Jettie M. [Mable] Cole was born June 24, 1886 in Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cole. She received her schooling in Martin County and grew to womanhood there.

In 1904 she was married to Jay Herenden and the couple lived in the western states. To that union one son, Marland, was born.

Jettie Herenden and Walter Swanson were united in marriage June 12, 1907 at Spirit Lake and following their marriage they farmed southwest of Estherville until 1936 when they moved to Spirit Lake. In 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Swanson moved back to Estherville and established their home on Park Road.

Mr. Swanson died Jan. 21, 1956 after suffering a heart attack.

Mrs. Swanson is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Simpson; one son, Marland (Slim) Swanson; three grandchildren, Gary Swanson and Robert and Gloria Simpson (student at Grinnell College.) One granddaughter, Joan Simpson, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday at First Presbyterian church, the Rev. Thomas G. Melton officiating. A family service will be at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed at 11 a.m. by a service for the public. Burial will be in East Side cemetery.

Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Chapel from this evening until Monday morning at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The casket will not be opened after the service.
