Fred Sternborg, Sr. Dies Wednesday Evening, 5:45
Fred Sternborg, Sr., a resident of Emmet county since 1900, passed away at his home on North Sixth street Wednesday [August 3, 1938] at 5:45 p.m.

About eighteen months ago Mr. Sternborg became afflicted by a very severe stroke which left him partially paralyzed. He became afflicted yesterday noon with another stroke which proved fatal. His wife, Mrs. Sternborg, passed away February 28, 1937.

Mrs. Sternborg was born in Germany on November 19, 1862. He moved to Emmet County in 1900 and purchased a farm 2 ˝ miles east of Huntington where he resided until 1914 when he moved to this city where he has been a continuous resident.

He was a well known resident in this county and was very highly respected by all who knew him. He was held in high esteem by all his neighbors and he was one of this county’s industrious and prosperous farmers.

Mr. Sternborg is survived by six children, three sons and three girls. They are Richard, Albert, Fred Jr., Mrs. J.W. Van Valkenburg and Mrs. Max Finch of Estherville and Mrs. George Weible of Rolfe.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the home and 2:30 p.m. in the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. F.W. Ortmyer officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 4, 1938)

Sternborg Service Tomorrow
Resident of City 21 Years Dies Following Stroke; Ill for Over a Year; Outlives Wife About Two Years.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Fred Sternborg, sr., at 2:00 at his home on N. 6th St. and at 2:30 in the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Sternborg died yesterday afternoon at 5:45 following a cereberal hemorrhage at 3 p.m. from which he never recovered. He suffered a similar stroke a year ago which had left him partially paralyzed.

Mr. Sternborg had farmed for a number of years near Huntington, moving to Estherville 21 years ago upon his retirement. His wife preceded him in death a year ago last February.

He is survived by three sons, Richard of Spirit Lake; Albert of Huntington and Fred jr., of Estherville; and three daughters Mrs. J.W. Van Valkenberg, Mrs. Geo. Weible of Rolfe and Mrs. Max Finch, also seven grandchildren.

Burial will be made in the Oak Hill Cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 8, 1938)
