Estherville – Services for Fred J. Sternborg, 91, Estherville, will be at 1:30 p.m Tuesday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rev. John Bowe officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery. He died Saturday, Feb. 16, 1985, at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born May 12, 1893 at Grundy Center, the son of Fred and Elka Sternborg and received his education in Emmet County country schools and Worshams School of Mortuary Science, Chicago, Ill. On June 27, 1929 he was united in marriage to Fern Brockway in Spirit Lake. He moved to Emmet county with his parents at the age of eight and lived on a farm until, as a young man, he entered Worshamm college and then established the Sternborg Funeral Home in Estherville and operate it for 30 years. He retired in1959. A veteran of World War I, Sternborg was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 91.
Survivors include his wife Fern, two daughters, Barbara Baker, Estherville, Mrs. Larry (Fern) Kilts, Spencer; five grandchildren, one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Ellen) England, Folton, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and an infant son. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 18, 1985)
