Estherville Woman’s Services Tuesday
Estherville – Mrs. Birdie Mae Steele [Steel, per cemetery records], 7, Estherville, passed away Sunday [December 29, 1974] morning at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry Funeral Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Neal Armstrong of the Gruver Presbyterian Church officiating and burial in the East Side Cemetery.

She was born November 9, 1900 in Gruver to Andrew and Gertrude McQueen Brown and received her education in the Gruver schools. She was married to Jay Steele September 29, 1921, at Jackson, Minn. She had lived in the Estherville and Gruver area all her life and had been a member of the Gruver Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one son, Richard, St. Paul; two grandchildren, Mrs. Diane Moyer, Minneapolis; Robert, St. Paul; two brothers, Wallace Brown, Gruver; Chester Brown, Estherville; four sisters, Mrs. Harry Wratten, Estherville; Mrs. Iva Pennington, Plainfield, Ill., Mrs. George Vavra and Mrs. Mildred Whaley, Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call at the Henry Funeral Home until time of services on Tuesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 30, 1974)
