Estherville – Funeral services for Roger W. Solmonson, 54, of Estherville will be held at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, with Pearl Overeen officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. He died on Feb. 2 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
Roger was born on April 17, 1947 in Spencer, the son of Wayne and Evelyn (Archer) Solmonson. He received his education in the Estherville schools.
Roger was one of the earliest clients at ECHO Inc. in Estherville. He loved working and disliked Fridays because of not being able to work and be at ECHO over the weekend. While employed at ECHO, he especially enjoyed assembling ink pens and packaging candy necklaces. Roger loved music and singing. When there was a birthday or celebration, Roger always led the group in song. Roger was always upbeat and happy. Anyone who knew Roger could tell that he truly enjoyed being around people. He was a friend to everyone When he was younger, he generally was at Central Barber Shop in Estherville sweeping the floor and greeting people as they came in to get their haircut. When his health failed he entered the Good Samaritan Center on May 4, 1996, where he remained a resident until his death.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Evelyn Solmonson of Estherville; aunts Lila Hartnett of Waukegan, Ill., Fern Archer of Estherville and Lucyle Solmonson of Estherville; aunt and uncle Ernest and Zella Solmonson of Estherville; aunt and uncle Otto and Norma Swalve of Estherville; aunt and uncle Milton “Doc” and Sharon Archer of Estherville and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his cousins, Phyllis Fry, Barbara Potter, Diana Johnson and George Hartnett, Jr. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 4, 2002)
