Estherville – Services for Michael LeRoy Calhan, 70, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Thomas Topf officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1990 at Rosewood Manor.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Friday. Legion of Mary Rosary at 4 p.m. and Vigil of the Deceased at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born June 5, 1919 near Gruver, the son of George and Hildegarde (Coyne) Calhan and attended Gruver School, graduating in 1936. He farmed and lived near Gruver and was employed by the Rock Island Railroad in Estherville as a fireman and engineer from 1945 to 1964. He moved into Estherville in 1980. On May 31, 1980 he married Mary Cushman at Estherville.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (United Transportation Union).

Survivors include his wife Mary; three step-sons: Gary Cushman, Mt. Pleasant; James and Terry Cushman, Terril; two step-daughters: Mrs. Ervin (Ann) Rowland, Ruthven and Mrs. Gerry (Jolene) Lutz, Estherville; nine step-grandchildren; three brothers: Robert Calhan, Clinton, Md.; Leo Calhan, Lakewood, Calif.; and one sister, Fran Murphy, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bernadene Fuhrman. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 1, 1990)
