Mrs. Max Soeth Died Very Suddenly at Their Farm Home
Death came suddenly to Mrs. Max Soeth at eight o’clock last Monday [September 13, 1948] evening. Mrs. Soeth had been ill in the Park View Clinic but was about and apparently well. She had taken one of her daughters to Cedar Falls to College and the other to a business college in Des Moines. She had been in Estherville that afternoon and to one of the beauty shops. She went home and she and Mr. Soeth had had super and he went out to finish the farm chores. As he came to the house he noticed the lights were not lighted. When he turned them on Mrs. Soeth was slumped in a chair. The table was about half cleared.

Mr. Soeth called an ambulance and a doctor but Mrs. Soeth never regained consciousness and died at the clinic at eight o’clock.

Mrs. Soeth was born in Storm Lake on Oct. 11, 1900 [Opal Ida Hoffman]. She was educated in the Storm Lake schools and in Buena Vista College in that city. She was at the time of her marriage a teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Soeth were married at Peterson May 29, 1924. They moved to a farm near Gruver and the following year to an adjoining farm to his father Mart Soeth. They have resided there until they moved to a farm nearer Estherville.

Mrs. Soeth was well known in the county. She was active in all activities connected with farm organizations. A church worker. Interested in Eastern Star and White Shrine, and the D.A.R. Mrs. Soeth was of a very friendly disposition and made friends easily and held them after made. She was an educated woman of fine personality. She will be greatly missed by those connected with the organizations she was an active member of.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Shirley Ann and Lorna Jean.

The funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon from the Huffman funeral home at 1:45 and from the Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. the Rev. Frielie Conaway officiating. Interment will be in the East Side cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 16, 1948)
