Mrs. D.A. Sears Dies
Mrs. D.A. Sears, Estherville resident for the past 16 years, died at 4:15 a.m. today following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Sears had suffered a stroke seven years ago and had been a semi-invalid for the past two years. Mrs. Sears had been taken to Holy Family Hospital Sunday morning.

Bertha Swan was born Nov. 15, 1900 at Columbus, Kans. and was united in marriage to D.A. Sears Dec. 24, 1919.

Following their marriage the Sears lived at Cassom, Minn. for eight or nine years and at Jackson, Minn., for four years prior to coming to Estherville. Mr. Sears, until retirement had been employed with the People’s Natural Gas Company.

Surviving Mrs. Sears death are her husband, a son, Alfred, Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Gene (Frances) Eike, Chicago, Mrs. Robert (Lavonne) Day and Mrs. Eldon (Dorothy) Elwood, both of Estherville.

Also surviving are a brother, Carl Swan; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Kurykendall of
Emporia, Kan.; Mrs. Robert Carver of Wichita, Kans. and Mrs. Paul Norris, Beloit, Kans.; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elvira Swan; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral arrangements are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday pending word form member of the family. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 16, 1957)

Mrs. Sears’ Rites Tomorrow
Funeral services for Mrs. D.A. Sears who died Saturday following a long illness will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the Sternborg Funeral home and 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church of which Mrs. Sears was a member. The Rev. Harrison G. Dawes will officiate. Friends may call at Sternborg’s until noon tomorrow. The casket will not be opened at the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 18, 1957)
