Estherville Mother of Four Dies in Collision
An Estherville mother of four children was killed late Thursday [June 22, 1972] afternoon in a collision of two cars near Jackson, Minn.

Dead is Mrs. Charles Schmidtke [Geneva Jean Adams Schmidtke], 33.

The car she was driving reportedly collided headon with an auto driven by Mrs. Martin Storholm, 67, St. Paul. Mrs. Storholm’s husband, 77, was also dead at the scene of the accident. Mrs. Storholm is said to be in fair condition at the Jackson hospital.

Mrs. Schmidtke was employed at the Univac Corporation in Jackson and was on her way to Sherburn after work to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adams, when the accident occurred. She was headed east on Highway 16, three mile east of Jackson. The Storholm auto was heading west. The accident happened at 4:50 p.m.

The Schmidtke car, a 1966 Buick, was completely demolished.

Mr. Schmidtek is employed at the Morrell plant in Estherville.

Mrs. Schmidtke’s death leaves four children motherless, Charles, Jr. 11, LeAnn 7, Scott 4, and Cindy 2.

She was born Oct. 20, 1938, at Pleasant Prairie Township [Martin Co.], Minn., and was a graduate of Sherburn High School.

She and Mr. Schmidtke were married June 19, 1959, at Sherburn and had lived in Estherville ever since.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Estherville.

Besides her husband and four children, Mrs. Schmidtke is survived by her parents, three sisters, Mrs. John Russenberger of Alpha, Mrs. Elmer Wendt of Fairmont, Glenda Adams of Sherburn and a brother, LeRoy Adams of Glidden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Paul Wiegman officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
