Ex-County Official Dies
Paul W. Lungren, 69, former Emmet County deputy auditor, died today at 4:35 a.m. in Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Lungren had been in poor health since suffering a heart attack about two years ago. He was again admitted to the hospital here Aug. 8, the same day funeral services were held for his father, Charles Lungren.

Born Dec. 3, 1896, at Gowrie, the son of Charles and Anna Lungren, he received his education in the Gowrie and Estherville schools.

In 1914, he went to Trimont, Minn., where he was employed as assistant cashier of the People’s State Bank in Trimont. He was married June 24, 1925, at Sisseton, S.D., to Eleanor Batterberry, a teacher in the Trimont schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Lungren continued to live in Trimont until 1929 when they moved to Lakefield, Minn., where Mr. Lungren was assistant cashier at the Farmer’s State Bank for six years.

In 1935 they moved to the Charles Lungren farm near Estherville and farmed there for several years. After moving to Estherville from the farm, Mr. Lungren was deputy county auditor for a time and afterwards was bookkeeper at Harker-Beauman Lumber Co. Following semi-retirement, Mr. Lungren did bookkeeping in his home office as long as his health permitted.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American legion and B.P.O. Elks.

Mr. Lungren is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. J.J. (Mary) Mikschl of Minneapolis, Mrs. Don (Beth) Shultheis of St. Paul and Mrs. Leo (Paula) Murphy of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; and one brother, Oscar, of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Reuben.

Funeral services are to be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rt. Rev. Mgsr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

A rosary will be said Thursday at 8 p.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day Thursday and until time of services Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 16, 1966)
