Estherville – Funeral services for August [Benton] Rosenberger, 80, will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Estherville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harvey Throop officiating and burial at the East Side Cemetery. Masonic services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville. He died Sunday [November 30, 1975] at Holy Family Hospital.
Mr. Rosenberger was born Oct. 1, 1895 on a farm nine miles east of Estherville to Charles and Noemi [Ahrens] Rosenberger and spent most of his life in Emmet County. He worked with the production and selling of farm seed and was one of the first in the county to grow soybeans. In 1933 he began selling hybrid seed corn and was one of the leading salesmen in this part of the state. He served on the state small grain certification committee, served as a director for the Iowa Crop Improvement Association, was the first corn dealer in the county, served on the county ASC committee for a number of years, was a member of the first soil conservation committee in the county, served on the Center Township school board for a number of years and was an elder and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Estherville. He was also a member of the White Shrine and North Star Chapter of the Masons.
He was married to Olive Olson Feb. 19, 1928 at Story City and they farmed in Emmet County until their retirement in 1953 when they moved to Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Olive; two sons, Paul, Decatur, Ill., and Clark, Schenectady, N.Y.; two grandsons and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
