Estherville – Memorial services for Russell Natterstad, 91, formerly of Estherville will b be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lynn A. Potter officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. There will be no visitation.Russell, a longtime resident of Estherville, passed away on July 15, 2002, at Wellstead of Rogers in Roger, Minn., surrounded by his family and caregivers.
Russell was born in Paxton, Ill., on Oct. 26, 1910 and he began school there. In 1922 his family moved to the Gruver area where they remained until he graduated from high school in 1928. After high school he attended Estherville Junior College and Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
On Sept. 18, 1936, Russell married Myrtle Harvego at the United Methodist Parsonage in Estherville. The couple had celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in 1996 and Myrtle passed away Dec. 28, 1996.
Russell farmed from 1932-48 before buying the DX Service Station, which he owned and operated until 1958. At that time he founded the NATMAR Rubber Company, manufacturing an air volume control for domestic water systems until his retirement.
Russell is survived by his two daughters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, daughter, Jean Penn and her husband, Mark of Fridley, Minn. and their children, Victoria Penn, Christopher Penn and his wife, Maria and their children, Nicholas and Sarah Penn and Helen Nelson and her husband, Michael and their son, Ryan Nelson; daughter, Diana O’Connor and her husband, John of New Brighton, Minn., and their family, Daniel O’Connor and his wife Nanette and their children, Adam and Carley O’Connor, Pat O’Connor and his wife, Richele, Paula Wahl and her husband, Pat and Amy O’Connor.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and one sister.
Russell spent most of his retirement years in Estherville and the last two years near his daughters and their families in the Minneapolis area. Russell spoke often of wanting to go back to Estherville if only his health permitted. So, in September, his loving family will return Russell to Estherville for a celebration of his life before laying him to rest beside Myrtle in the East Side Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers any memorial donations be made to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 19, 2002)
