Harold Reed Dies Monday; Rites Friday
Services for Harold L. Reed, 67, Estherville, who died Monday, Aug. 21, 1972, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, are to be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.The Rev. Paul L. Wiegman of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be made at East Side Cemetery.
Harold L. Reed, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Reed, was born Nov. 15, 1904, in Perry.
He received his education in the Perry, Emmetsburg and Estherville schools. On Nov. 16, 1925, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Olson in Estherville.
He spent 40 years in the wholesale ice cream business, all of these years were lived in Estherville except from 1942-47 when he managed an ice cream plant in Manchester. He returned to Estherville in 1947 and managed the Borden Company until his retirement.
In Manchester, he was a member of the Lion’s Club, board of education and country club. In Estherville, he was a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, past Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias and served on the board of directors for them. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Reed is survived by four sons, Jack of Chicago, Bob of Manchester, Charles of Stevensville, Mich., and Jim of Estherville; two grandchildren, Kelley and Jeff; three sisters, Mrs. Mae Anderson, Estherville, Mrs. Leon (Jessie) Clough, Eugene, Ore., and Mrs. Herve (Velma) Whorley, Estherville. He has been preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents; one brother, Clifford; and one sister, Mrs. William (Etta) Clark. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 23, 1972)
