Grover C. Race rites set
Grover Cleveland Race, 86, Estherville, died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital from the infirmities of age.He was born Jan. 13, 1885, in Jasper County, Ill., to Mr. and Mrs. James Race. He was educated in Jasper County schools.
He was married July 15, 1908, to Emma Buckingham at Washburn, Ill. They lived in the Washburn area until moving to the Ringsted area in 1912, where they farmed until 1935. They moved to Estherville where he was employed by the Estherville Coop Creamery until 1952. From 1952 to 1957, he was employed by the Hill Packing Company until his retirement in 1957.
He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge for many years and was a member of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Mayme) Long, Estherviille; Mrs. Earl (Audrey) Ostheimer, Estherville; and Mrs. Raymond (Merta Mae) Brown, La Habra, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Orville and Lonial Race, both of Jasper County, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Robert Karl Miller officiating Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Thursday, until time of services on Saturday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1971)
