Estherville – Evelyn Proprofsky, 61, passed away Monday morning, March 27, at Veteran’s Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn. Services are pending at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 27, 1978)

Estherville – Services for Evelyn [per burial records, Evalyn], 61, Estherville, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

She died of leukemia Monday, March 27, at Veteran’s Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

She was born July 21, 1916 in Ottawa, Ill., to parents Clarence and Martha (Klinepeter) Anderson. The family moved to Estherville and then to Sherburn, Minn. where she attended grade school. Later she attended school in Gruver, graduating from high school there.

After high school she moved to Chicago, Ill. and lived there for several years before moving to New Mexico. In 1943, still living in New Mexico, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. She served in active duty for two and a half years and was a member of the reserves for 10 years.

After her tour of duty in the Marines she moved to Sioux City where she attended beauty school and remained there for five years. In 1969 she moved to Estherville and worked as a beauty operator until stricken with leukemia.

A 25-year member of the American Legion, she was also a member of the Wild Rose, Women Marines of Iowa and the National Association of Women Marines.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Miriam) Campbell, Estherville and Mrs. Kenneth (Janis) Kruse, Storm Lake; and one niece, Mrs. Jerry (Pat) Phipps, Cherokee.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of services on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 28, 1978)
