Ringsted – Mrs. Velma Planting, 66, rural Ringsted, died Sunday [January 16, 1977] at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Services for Mrs. Planting will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville. Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 17, 1977)

Ringsted – Mrs. Sieger (Velma) Planting, 66, succumbed Sunday at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Services for Mrs. Planting will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Gruver, with the Rev. Dale Jenson officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville.

Friends may call after 12 noon Tuesday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville.

Mrs. Planting was born Aug. 11, 1910 in Moweaqua, Ill., to Mr. and Mrs. Reed Jacobs. She moved to Iowa as a small child with her parents and received her education in the country schools in the Ringsted area. She lived in the Ringsted-Emmetsburg area her entire life.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Gruver.

Mrs. Planting is survived by two sons, Russell Planting, Estherville, and Robert Planting, rural Ringsted; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Rojean) Jacobsen, Estherville, and Mrs. Andrew (Rozella) Swalve, Bricelyn, Minn.; one brother, Glenn Jacobs, Newton; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 18, 1977)
