Mrs. Minnie Nurss Dies at Age of 77
Mrs. Minnie Nurss, former Estherville resident and active member of the Methodist church, did at 3:45 a.m. today in a Cedar Rapids hospital. She was 77 years old.Her niece and nephew by marriage, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Griffith, left Estherville this morning to make arrangements for her funeral. The late Mr. Mead Nurss is buried in Eastside cemetery here. Before his death he worked on the Rock Island railroad here.
Mrs. Nurss, before she left Estherville in the 1930’s was superintendent of the primary department in the Methodist church Sunday school and an active member in the Eastern Star lodge. She since has been active in the Methodist church in Cedar Rapids.
She was born Sept. 16, 1874, in Illinois.
Surviving her death are a daughter, Mildred Nurss of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Viola) Kilgore of Estherville, Mrs. Ada Burns of Chillicothe, Ill., and Mrs. William McCurdy of Bradford, Ill.; three brothers, Fred Hall of Twin Valley, Minn., Elmer and Calvin Hall of Badford.

Mrs. Meade Nurss
Minnie Nurss, 77, of 308 Sixth street SE, widow of Meade Nurss, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday in a Cedar Rapids hospital.Born Sept. 16, 1874, at Camp Grove, Ill., she came to Cedar Rapids from Estherville on Oct. 1, 1931.
She was an active member of Susanna Wesley class of St. Paul’s Methodist church; a charter member of the O.E.S. at Estherville; a member of the White Shrine of Cedar Rapids; a 40-year member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen auxiliary; Star of Maine Rebekah lodge, and Valley Camp R.N.A.
Survivors include a daughter Mildred; a son, Clifford; several grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Body at Barta-Hesser funeral home. Burial will be at Estherville. (Cedar Rapids Gazette, Cedar Rapids, IA, February 12, 1952)
