BLUE EARTH, Minn. - Dorothy Nelson, 95, of Blue Earth, Minn. and formerly Gruver, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at St. Luke's Care Center in Blue Earth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth with Rev. Vic Vriesen officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the East Side Cemetery in Estherville. Visitation time will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the service, at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th St., in Blue Earth.

Dorothy was born Sept. 15, 1916, at Whiting, the daughter of Raymond Scott and Gertrude (Batman) Scott. She was raised and educated in Gruver where she graduated from Gruver High School. She was married to Theodore Nelson on Dec. 31, 1934, in Wallingford. The couple moved to Mira Loma, Calif., in 1969. Dorothy returned to Blue Earth, Minn. in 2010.

Dorothy was a bookkeeper and accountant for many years and had worked with the Department of Corrections in the State of California, retiring at the age of 72. She enjoyed dancing and traveling. She will be remembered for her baking, especially wonderful apple and banana cream pies. She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church and Grove Community Church in Riverside, Calif., where she enjoyed her Bible study groups.

She is survived by her daughters, Theodora (Dean) Oswald of Mt. Ida, Ark. and Gayle (James) Meehan of Riverside, Calif.; her son, Dannie (Audrey) Nelson of Blue Earth; her sister, Phyllis Sheely, of Earlham; eight grandchildren: Debra Lundberg, Sheryl (Thomas) LaMont, Dennis (Sandy) Oswald, John (Tami) Oswald, Greg (Cindy) Nelson, Pam (Randy) Anderson, Joshua (Gina) Meehan and Jennifer (Richard) Hawthorne; 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; infant daughter, Dorathea; brothers Melvin and Robert and a sister, Marjorie. (MC)
