Estherville – Funeral services for Elton Weisman, 90 of Estherville will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Father Jerry Cosgrove officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. He died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001 at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
Elton was born on Feb. 6, 1911 in Tulare, S.D., the son of Edward L. and Clara (Otto) Weisman. He attended a one room country school through the 9th grade where he was taught by his sister, Mildred. He began farming on his own at a young age west of Tulare.
On Dec. 26, 1945 he was united in marriage to Margaret Marx at the Catholic Rectory in Redfield, S.D.
He farmed until retiring at age 62. Elton and Mildred continued living on their farm until 1987 when they moved to Estherville to be near their son, Steve and his family.
Elton was a true steward of the land and for his efforts in conservation was awarded the “Conservation Farmer of the Year” award in Spink County, S.D.
In November of 1999, Elton moved to the Good Samarian Center where he enjoyed the care and friendship of staff and residents. Margaret passed away Feb. 14, 2001.
Elton is survived by two sons, Steve Weisman and his wife, Darial and Ed Weisman, both of Estherville; two grandchildren, Stephanie Wheatley and her husband, Ryan of Estherville and Curt Weisman and his wife, Minde of Armstrong and one great grandson, Hunter Wheatley of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Dennis and Larry, two brothers, William and Milton and a sister, Mildred. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 20, 2001)
