R.W. Myers, 76, Dies; Services to Be Thursday
Roy Warren (Turk) Myers, 76, Estherville, died at 12:17 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital from cancer. He had been ill for the last 40 months.He was born April 17, 1893, in Watertown S.D., to Mr. and Mrs. George W. Myers and was educated in the Watertown schools. He came to Emmet County and Estherville in 1914 with his parents. He entered World War I July 10, 1917, and served in the Army until May 16, 1919.
On Dec. 22, 1923, he was married to Hannah Nelson at Albert Lea, Minn. He was a switchman for the Rock Island Railroad until he retired in 1960.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the World War I Barracks, the VFW, and the Railroad Switchmen’s Union.
Survivors include his wife, Hannah; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Myers, Monroe, La.; three grandchildren; one brother, George Myers, Springfield, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Myers, Richard Myers, Robert Nelson, Keith Mortenson, Kenneth Mortensen and Kermit Mortensen.
Honorary pallbearers will be E.C. Sidles, John Wee, Harry Simpson and Jesse Griffith.
Masonic services will be held tonight at 7 at the Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel. Military services will be on Thursday by the VFW and the WWI Barracks.
Members of the World War I Barracks are to meet at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. for the funeral of Mr. Myers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 25, 1970)
