Col. Homer Munson
Estherville – Funeral services for Col. Homer Munson, 75, Oklahoma City, Okla., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. Max Goldman of the Estherville United Methodist Church officiating and burial at the East Side Cemetery. There will be military graveside services.

Col. Munson was born in September 1899 at Humboldt to Earnest [Ernest] and Elizabeth Munson and moved to Estherville in 1916. He graduated from Estherville High School and attended Iowa State University. He joined the Air Force and graduated from Kelly Flight School in 1922. He barnstormed around the country until 1926 when he was called back to the Air Force. He was married to Eva Hornby in 1926 in Estherville.

In 1942 Col. Munson was appointed to fly for General George C. Marshall, then chief of staff of the armed services and later Ambassador to China. While with Marshall he flew for many Chinese leaders, the Churchills and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. Col. Munson, a retired Lt. Col., logged 17,000 hours during his 37 years with the Air Force.

Survivors are his wife, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one son, Homer Jr., Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Marian Anderson, Costa Mesa, Calif.; six grandchildren and one brother, Richard, Estherville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, from noon Friday until time of services Saturday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 21, 1975)
