LeRoy Merriott Dies; Services Held Monday
LeRoy A. Merriott, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 23, at his home in Estherville.

He was born April 27, 1885, at Fredricka to Mr. and Mrs. James H. Merriott. He moved with his family to Gruver and received his education in the Emmet County Schools.

On Feb. 22 he was married to Mary (Mae) E. Reid at Gruver. They lived in the Gruver area before moving to Estherville where he was a buyer for the Hill Packing Co. He retired 15 years ago. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1969. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and IOOF in Estherville.

He is survived by his wife, Mae; one son, LeRoy, Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Pauline) Myers, and Marilyn, Estherville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Laura, and an infant daughter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, with the Rev. H. Allen Wirtz of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William O. Anderson, Dale Brandt, Gerald Dicken, James L. Kelly, Tom Merriott and Erle Reid. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 25, 1972)
