Wednesday night, June 7, little Laura, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Merriott, died of heart disease, at the age of 8 years, 2 months and 7 days [dob March 31, 1896]. She had been sick for two months with rheumatism and heart trouble. She was a terrible sufferer, but was so patient and bore her suffering without a murmur. Little Laura was beloved by all. It is seldom that a child so sweet and loving is found as was little Laura. The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Gruver Saturday afternoon, June 11, and the little form was laid to rest in the east side cemetery at Estherville. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1904)Mrs. L. Taylor received the sad news Friday that her little granddaughter was dead. She started at once for New Hampton to be there for the funeral, which was held Saturday afternoon. This is a double sorrow for Mrs. Taylor, as her sister’s only daughter, little Laura Merriott was buried the same day. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1904)
Mr. and Mrs. Will Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. James Pickell of Rockwell came Friday to attend the funeral of little Laura Merriott.
George Merriott and daughter Nellie were here from Superior to attend the funeral of Laura Merriott. ((Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1904)
