Final Services Held for Resident of Estherville
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville for Mrs. Edwin (Mary Alice) McKean, 68, who died at 5:45 p.m. Monday [July 7, 1969] at Holy Family Hospital.Burial was at East Side Cemetery. Rev. Ellis K. Gasser of Armstrong Presbyterian Church officiated at the services. Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McKean had been ill since this March.
She was born Nov. 26, 1900, in Lee County to Mr. and Mrs. James P. Burkholder. She moved with her parents to Emmet County in 1909 and received her education at Dolliver. She was a graduate of Maple Hill High School.
She was married to Edwin L. McKean at Estherville in 1920, and after their marriage they farmed in Emmet County until 1952 when they moved to Estherville.
Mrs. McKean was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Estherville, Maurice Doyle American Legion Auxiliary, Past Presidents American Legion Auxiliary, and the Emmet County Barracks 1896 World War I Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband Edwin; two sons, Roy R. McKean, Terril; Lloyd E. McKean, Wallingford; two daughters, Mrs. Neal (Verna) Sigler, San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Layne (Virginia) Wall, New London, Minn.; four brothers, Carl Burkholder, Cedar Falls,; William Burkholder, Waterloo; Ben Burkholder, Pochontas, Ark.; and Don Bukholder, Gilbertville; one sister, Mrs. George (Mae) McKean, Estherville; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, four brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers are Richard, Charles, Thomas and Arlen McKean, Gary Jensen, and Robert White. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 10, 1969)
