ESTHERVILLE - Mass of Christian Burial for Hugh Harding Allen, 88, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes as Celebrant and Father Al Grendler and Father Thomas Flanagan as Concelebrants.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.
Hugh Harding Allen, the son of James Thomas and Sarah Elmira (Stilts) Allen, was born Aug. 23, 1921 in Gillette Grove.
On June 16, 1948 he was united in marriage to Teresa Mary Hemple in Avoca, Minn. The couple made their home in Estherville and Hugh did agricultural construction for majority of his life. Hugh enjoyed fishing, woodworking, old cars, tractors, country music (especially Johnny Cash), playing his harmonica and accordion and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Most important to Hugh was spending time with his family.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville.
Left to cherish Hugh's memory are his wife, Teresa, of Estherville; his children, James Allen and his wife, Alica, of Lakeside, Ariz., Susan Smith and her husband, R.J., of Spokane, Wash., LeAnn Busch and her husband, Kevin, of Fulda, Minn., Lisa Surfass of Salt Lake City and Christy Klun and her husband, Mike, of Lindstrom, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 11, 2010)
