William Marley Obituary
William Marley was born in Devonshire, England, May 3, 1824, and died at Kettle River, Minnesota, March 12, 1915, at the ripe old age of 90 years, 10 months and 9 days. Mr. Marley lived in England until he was a lad of fourteen when he had a desire to see something of the world. He left his home and spent the next four years of his life as a sailor on the high seas. At the age of eighteen he came to the United States and settled in Buffalo, New York, where he lived for several years. Later on in life he moved to Rockford, Illinois, then to Worth County, Iowa, then to Albert Lea, Minnesota, and from there he came to Estherville where he lived until two years ago when he moved to Dunnell, Minnesota, with his daughter and after living there about a year he moved to Kettle River, Minnesota, with his daughter where he was living when he was called home to his reward. Mr. Marley was married three times. His last wife’s name was Eliza Brown to whom he was married at Austin, Minnesota in 1872.

There are two children living: Isaac Marley at Wallingford, Iowa, and Mrs. Dora Beach, at Kettle River, Minnesota. He also leaves eight grand-children and two great grand-children. Mr. Marley united with the Baptist church at Estherville about twenty years ago and has remained a member ever since.

The body was brought to Estherville from Kettle River, Minnesota, Tuesday by his son-in-law, Mr. Beach, and the funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Baptist church by Rev. J. Frederic Catlin, the pastor of the church. The body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 31, 1915)
