Gruver – Services for John S. (Jack) Harvey, 83, will be held t 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father A.O. Grendler officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He died Wednesday morning at the Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville after 2 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be recited at the funeral home Sunday at 4 p.m. followed by a scripture service conducted by Rev. Neal Armstrong.
Harvey was born Dec. 9, 1898 near Swan Lake in Center Township, Emmet County, the son of Stewart and Malinda (Ehlers) Harvey. He attended Gruver School. He worked on various farms near home until 1927 when he went to South Dakota and worked on farms and ranches in Charles Mix and Aurora Counties in the west river country near Belvidere. He also worked on bridge construction. On April 23, 1931 Harvey married Viola Rebensdorf at Stickney, S.D. The couple moved to a farm south of Gruver where they have lived since. He retired from farming in 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Viola, rural Gruver; daughter Loretta Harvey, Aurora, Colo.; son-in-law and daughter Bob and Teresa Schiltz, Albert Lea, Minn., Maxine Mahin, Chula Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren and one brother, Lewis Harvey of Gruver.
He was preceded in death by a son, grandson and parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 4, 1982)
