Police have questioned eight young men all under 21 concerning a parking lot fight in which serious injury has resulted for Ronald Zufall, 19, of Estherville.Zufall, son of Mr. and Mrs. LuVern Zufall, was first taken to Holy Family Hospital following the incident which occurred before midnight September 22 in the high school parking lot. He was treated for a one-inch cut on his head, released and re-hospitalized Friday when his behavior began to appear erratic.
He was transferred to St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato and was treated for subarachnoid brain hemorrhage. On Saturday he suffered a brief heart stoppage and was transferred to Mayo Clinic at Rochester.
Estherville police have questioned all known parties involved and witnesses, according to Chief Robert Seylar. No charges have been filed as yet. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 1, 1971)
Ronald Zufall Dies Today
Ronald Eugene Zufall, 19, Estherville, died at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn., early this morning, Friday, Nov. 12, 1971, as a result of an accident seven weeks ago.He was born June 20, 1952, at Estherville to Luvern and Myrtle Hoover Zufall. He received his education in Estherville schools, and was employed at the Jim Kirk farm at the time of the accident.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. LuVern Zufall, two half brothers, Harry Zufall, Vista, Calif., and Robert Doyle, Duncombe; and one half-sister, Mrs. Harm Lewerke, Buffalo, Minn.; grandmothers, Mrs. Edith Zufall, Spencer; and Mrs. Alta Hoover, Fort Dodge.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Val Hauck officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Estherville all day Sunday until noon on Monday when the body will be taken to the church.
