Stroke Proves Fatal to Roy Loveland
John LeRoy (Roy) Loveland, 54, well known restaurant operator here, died at 11:15 a.m. yesterday at his home following a stroke. He had been in poor health for the past year and a half.Mr. Loveland was born Nov. 7, 1900 in Ellsworth, Minn., and came to Estherville as a young boy, receiving his education in the Estherville schools.
He was married June 21, 1921 to Elizabeth Ellen Hall in Lamira [?], Ohio and the couple lived in Alliance and Akron, Ohio for four or five years before returning to Estherville where Mr. Loveland lived ever since. He was engaged in the operation of restaurants here, most recently People’s Café and the Casa Loma. He was married in 1939 to Bessie Holsclaw.
Mr. Loveland was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges and served as governor of the Moose lodge. He was an ardent supporter of the Estherville Red Sox.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Nadine) Kurtz of Storm Lake, two sons, Robert of Rosseau, Minn., and Warren, chief pharmacist mate in the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren, one sister; Mrs. Bert (Mildred) Cook of Spokane, Wash., and one brother, Harry of Rapid City, S.D.
His parents and one sister, Mrs. William (Virginia) Neese preceded him in death.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending word from Warren Loveland, who is enroute back to the United States from overseas duty.
