Mrs. Wm. Stanhope, Pioneer Resident, Dies at Her Home
Death came to Mrs. M.W. Stanhope last Tuesday [May 7, 1940] morning at her home on North 13th street after an illness of long duration. Mrs. Stanhope’s condition has been serious for the past month during which time she has been confined to her bed.

Mrs. Stanhope was of Canadian birth, born August 25, 1858 [Per cemetery records, 1859]. She was united in marriage to M. W. Stanhope at Melrose, Canada. They moved to a farm near Eagle Lake where they resided until they retired from farm activities 30 years ago. Since that time they have resided in Estherville.

Mrs. Stanhope was a woman devoted to her home and her family. She was a friend to a friend and beloved by her neighbors. She never was so busy she did not have time to come to the assistance of her friends and neighbors. Kind and considerate to all.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, Frank Stanhope of Buffalo, N.D., John Stanhope of Long Prairie, Minn., Edward Stanhope of Waterloo and five daughters, Mrs. Harry Wells and Mrs. John Boullion of Conde, N.D., Mrs. Frank Scott of Long Prairie, Minn., Mrs. Van P. Judd of Zillah, Wash., and Miss Inez, who resides at home.

The funeral services will be held on ------ [blank space], the Rev. Fred Sawyer officiating. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 9, 1940)
