Orlando Lingenfelter, a resident of Emmet County for forty-seven years, and one of the county's most highly respected citizens, passed to the great beyond Saturday morning at. his home.on East Lincoln street after an illness of over one year, aged.seventy-nine years.

Orlando Lingenfelter was born on May 7, 1836, at Smithfield, Madison County, New York. In December, 1865, he moved with his family to Oak Grove, Wisconsin. On July 4. 1859, he was united in marriage to Sarah Ann Coon, a sister of Mr. Henry C. Coon of this city, and to this union ten children were born eight of whom are still living. In September, 1868, the family moved to Emmet County where they have since lived. In April, 1882, the home was saddened by the, death of the wife and mother and during the next nine years several of the children were married and left their father's roof, the daughters remaining to keep house for him and care for the younger children. On February 11, 1891, Mr. Lingenfelter married Mrs. Elizabeth Riggs who is the mother of three of the children surviving their father.

About one year ago the deceased was first taken sick with kidney trouble and for weeks and months his life was despaired of but time and time again he rallied from what was thought to be his death stroke and finally so far recovered as to be able to get about town and although he had frequent spells when he was forced to return to his bed for a few days in each instance he pulled through and the day before his death he was, well enough to go out for dinner with relatives and no fears were felt as regarded his condition.

The deceased was a man of rugged constitution being of powerful build and it was this great physical vitality which enabled him to stay the hand of death and for nearly a year postpone the final summons.

Last Friday evening he was taken sick and grew gradually worse all night long and about four o'clock Saturday morning he passed into an unconscious state from which he never aroused sufficiently to recognize anyone or to realize that the end was near, and at seven o'clock Saturday evening the battle was ended, and as though tired of the long losing battle against great odds in an endeavor to retain its earthly habitation the soul of the tired wasted man took fight.

The deceased is survived by his second wife; two sisters, Mrs. H. C. Coon of this city and Mrs. Foustmaker of Mill Grove, Mo.; a brother, Jerry Lingenfelter of Lewiston Station, Minn.; and the following children: Will, Frank and Orlando, Jr., who live in North Dakota; Mrs. Henry Riley, Mrs, John Martyr, Mrs. Harry Bixby, George and Clark Lingenfelter of Estherville; Mrs. Chas. Yost of Fair field, and Russell and Lyle who live at home. (The Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 8, 1915)
