Virgil Laidig Dies; Rites to Be Monday
Virgil Laidig, 47, of Estherville died early this morning at Holy Family hospital from complications of liver disease. He had been hospitalized for three weeks prior to his death.

Born Aug. 4, 1909, near Armstrong, Mr. Laidig spent his entire life here with the exception of three years. He farmed in Emmet county until 1944 when he moved to Estherville. While living here he worked at the local packing plants until two years ago when he was employed by the city.

Mr. Laidig was a member of the Union Baptist church here and attended church faithfully.

Survivors include a son, Virgil, Jr., and a daughter, Jeradine, both of Estherville. Also surviving are three sisters and three brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Ben Huntley of Dolliver, Mrs. George Enderson of Estherville; and Mrs. Robert Spellman of San Luis Obispo, Calif. The brothers fare Paul, Ernset and Arnold, all of Estherville.

His parents, an infant son, brother and sister all preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sternborg funeral chapel and at 2 p.m. at the Union Baptist church. The Rev. Eugene Olson will officiate and burial will be at East Side cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from Sunday noon until the time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 9, 1957)
