James Kirk Sr.
Estherville – Funeral services for James Roscoe Kirk Sr., 76, Estherville, were held 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, Estherville, with the Rev. James Harmon officiating and burial at the East Side Cemetery. He died Friday [March 19, 1976] afternoon at Holy Family Hospital.Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Henry Funeral Chapel, Estherville.
Mr. Kirk was born Aug. 26, 1899 at Mohawk, Tenn., to Robert and Antha Bible Kirk and was educated in the Onawa schools. He came to Estherville as a young man and was married to Sophia Heiman April 4, 1927 at Estherville. After his marriage they operated a grocery store at Olaf for eight years. In 1934 he returned to Estherville where he lived and farmed on a farm north of Estherville. Mr. Kirk was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the North Star Lodge 447, White Shrine, Commandery and Consistery and the Emmet County Tax Review Board.
Survivors include his wife, Sophia, Estherville; one son, James Kirk Jr., Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. David (Rosabelle) Hermann, Clinton, Wis.; three grandchildren; one brother, H. Floyd Kirk, Domphiom, Mo.; and one sister, Mrs. Ward Daughenbaugh, Rapid City, S.D.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 22, 1976)
