Aurlena Mary Dresch Schultz 1925-1996

Aurlena Mary Dresch, the daughter of Mally F. and Mary (Eulberg) Dresch, was born May 30, 1925, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and departed this life at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, on Thursday, August 22, 1996, at the age of 71 years, two months and 22 days.

She received her education in the Dell Rapids schools, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Dell Rapids. She then attended McKennan Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1947.

Aurlena was employed at the Home Hospital in Slayton, Minnesota and the Dell Rapids hospitals. She then was employed as a surgical nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 28, 1950, she was united in marriage to Raymond W. Schultz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Following her marriage, the couple lived in Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1953, they moved to Madison, South Dakota. Aurlena took a seventeen year leave from nursing to raise her family. In 1971, the couple moved to Estherville. She was employed as the school nurse in the Estherville High School from 1972, until her retirement in 1995.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, Iowa, School Nurses Assoc., and the Estherville Bustle Rustlers. Aurlena enjoyed time with her family, visiting grandchildren, ministering to the needs of students at Estherville High School, her backyard rose garden, and square dancing and round dancing.

Aurlena is survived by her husband, Raymond of Estherville; four sons, Charles Schultz and his wife, Terri of Anacortes, Washington; William Schultz and his wife, Cindy of Missoula, Montana; Jeffrey Schultz and his wife, Mary of Fair Oaks, California; Timothy Schultz and his wife, Angela of Harrison, Idaho; four grandchildren, Andrew and Samuel of Missoula; Kathryn of Fair Oaks; Ellison of Harrison; and two sisters, Agnes Bunkers of Dell Rapids; and E. Gertrude Blankenship and her husband, John of Everett, Washington. She has been preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clarence and Norbert. (MC)
