Helen Eileen Reiter, the daughter of Charles and Bess (Hynes) Nieman was born August 18, 1920, in Pocahontas, Iowa and departed this life on Sunday, Janaury 9, 2000, at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, four months and 13 days.

She received her education in the Pocahontas schools graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1938.

On October 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Reiter in Pocahontas, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Pocahontas and surrounding areas. In 1954 the couple moved to Estherville. Eileen was a Avon representative for many years. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center since 1986. Mr. Reiter died April 2, 1986. Eileen enjoyed traveling, music, fishing and camping.

She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Church Choir, Altar and Rosary Society Catholic Daughters of America and V.F.W Auxiliary.

Eileen is survived by nine children, Charles Reiter of Estherville; James Reiter and his wife, Janice of Estherville; Dennis Reiter and his wife, Linda of Toledo, Ohio; Joseph Reiter and his wife, Diana of Wallingford; Michael Reiter and his wife, Beverly of Sheldon, Iowa; Robert Reiter, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Citrus Heights, California; Mary Bandow and her husband, Steve of Estherville; Kathy Duhn and her fiancé, Doug Burkey of Oelwein, Iowa; Lisa Hall and her husband, Derrick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twenty-six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She has been preceded in death by her parents; husband, son, William on June 23, 1977; brother, Paul Nieman; and two granddaughters, Holly Reiter and Tina Reiter. (MC)
