Elizabeth (Betty) Parsons, the daughter of Frederick G. and Julia Elizabeth “Bess” (Sullivan) Parsons, was born December 1, 1912, in Estherville, Iowa and departed this life at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville on Tuesday, June 27, 1995, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 26 days.
She received her education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School. She then attended Estherville Junior College, Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio and Cedar Rapids Business College.
Betty was employed a short time for the Cedar Rapids Business College and for several years in Des Moines for the Internal Revenue Service. In 1941, she returned to Estherville to be at home during illness in the family. She was employed during that time at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank. In 1945, she moved to Glendale, California, where she was employed by an aircraft company until it closed. In 1949, she returned to Estherville and was employed by Honeymead Company and later employed at the Emmet County Extension Service for seventeen years. Betty retired in 1974.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Legion of Mary and a Friend of the Estherville Public Library. Betty was an avid tennis player and was past champion at the Estherville Golf and Country Club. She has been a resident at Rosewood Manor in Estherville for the past several years.
Miss Parsons is survived by one niece, Clarinda Niedwicki of Syracuse, New York; one nephew, Fred Poole of Seattle, Washington; and many friends and members of the Catholic Daughters of America. She had been preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Frederick; and one sister, Jeanne Poole Flynn. (MC)
