John Lance McFadden the son of Kenneth V. and Margaret C. (Franer) McFadden was born June 27, 1938 in Middletown, Pennsylvania and departed this life on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 70.
He graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1956. John holds the Philadelphia High School record for 17 strikeouts in 7 innings in 1954. When he was a junior in high school, he was the winning pitcher for the city championship game at Connie Mac Stadium and was selected M.V.P. He then attended Drexel University and graduated from University of Virginia Banking School. John pitched for the St. Louis Cardinal's farm system baseball team until 1958.
On November 14, 1959 he was united in marriage to Margaret Mester in Estherville. The couple made their home in Estherville where John was a partner in McFadden-Lund-Shadle Insurance and now known as Northstar Bank and Agency. Margaret died on October 2, 1987.
John was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and belonged to various organizations including: Bank America Board from 1975 to 1997; Northstar Bank Board from 1997 to present; Estherville Housing Commission; Knights of Columbus; Airport Commission; past president of Estherville Country Club; and he served 34 years on the ILCC foundation board. John also was selected to the High School Athletic Hall of Fame of South Philadelphia in 2002.
Left to cherish John's memory are his children, Colleen and Greg French and their children, Jillian and friend Cameron and Luke and his fiance, Blythe; Paula Schacherer and her husband, Steve and their children, Matt and fiance, Abby, Michael and Sarah; Lance McFadden and his wife, Brenda and their children, Allison, Megan and Lauren; Mary Pattison and her husband, Jay and their children, Abbie and Lindy; sister-in-law, Bev McFadden and several nieces and nephews.
He has been preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Brian, and grandson.
