James Greene
Estherville – Funeral services for James Nelson Greene, 79, of Estherville will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 8 at the Good Samaritan Center Chapel in Estherville, with Father Jerry Cosgrove, father Al Grendler and the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. He died on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

James was born on July 22, 1924 in Humeston, the son of Gaither and Mertie (Smith) Greene.

On Nov. 7, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joan Welding in West Point. James was a lifetime resident of Estherville. He was best remembered for his years as the manager of the Grand Theatre and as Justice of the Peace.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville.

James is survived by his wife, Joan, of fifty years; children, Tim Greene and his wife, Leaha of Exira; Rebecca Bergeson and her husband, Russ of Manchester; Anthony Greene of Burnsville, Minn.; David Greene and his fiancé, Cheryl of Loveland, Colo.; Anne Carlson and her husband, Dennis of Estherville and Mary Ellefson and her husband, Eliot of Jackson, Minn.; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Beulah Moon of Des Moines; Violet Brown of Fairfield; Virginia Hutchison of Humeston; and Reva Drake of Walnut.

He has been preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and an infant son. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 6, 2004)
