Doris Elaine Hanson, the daughter of Ernest and Lillian (Kinnard) Hanson, was born December 6, 1928 in Estherville, Iowa. She passed away Friday, June 9, 2006, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville from complications of cancer at the age of 77 years.

She received her education in the Halfa School District. She graduated from Halfa High School in 1947.

On August 31, 1950 she was united in marriage to Leland C. Alig in Sibley, Iowa. They made their home in Estherville. They were blessed with 54 years together. Leland died January 5, 2005.

Doris was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. Throughout her life she worked at Rexall Drug, People's Natural Gas, and the Good Samaritan Center, but her most important role was as loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, cross-stitching, gardening, many years of golf and spending time with her sisters, children and grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared Doris' life are, her six children, Mike Alig and his wife, Peggy of Estherville; Dave Alig and his wife, Barb of Estherville; Diane Lynch of Mankato, Minnesota; John Alig of Cherokee, Iowa; Kate Woods and her husband, Bill of Estherville and Marcia Kulow and her husband, Tom of Keller, Texas; eleven grandchildren, who brought her much joy in her life. Doris is also survived by her one brother, John Hanson and his wife, Jeanette of Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa; five sisters, Janice Hall and her husband, Clyde of Estherville; Betty Platter and her husband, Jack of Estherville; Janie Johnson and her husband, Merle (Bubs) of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Carolyn Geerdes and her husband, Hermie of Jackson, Minnesota and Coleen Blass and her husband, Chris of Estherville; and also many nieces and nephews.

She has been preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law, Dick Lynch and her parents. (MC)
