Estherville Man’s Rites Held Today
Estherville – Elijah Wesley Jones, 74, died at 6:45 p.m. May 9 in Holy Family Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville with the Rev. James Harmon of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment was made in East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born May 11, 1899 at Mount Zion, Ky., to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jones. He received his education in Adair County, Ky., schools. On March 23, 1923 he was married to Bonnie Wolford at Campbellsville, Ky.

The couple came to Iowa City, Iowa in 1923 where he worked for the University of Iowa until 1934. They came to Emmet County to farm and farmed until 1957, when they moved into Estherville.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Virginia) Kirchner, Hillsboro, Ore., Mrs. Wayne (Carol) Legore, Wallingford, Mrs. Lowell (Barbara) McKean, Marengo, Mrs. John (Betty) Croner, Estherville; one son, Kenneth Wesley Jones, St. Paul, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Sam Conley, Mrs. Tom White and Mrs. Crawford Harrison, all of Louisville, Ky.; three brothers, Samuel, Daniel and Rufus, all of Louisville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one daughter. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 13, 1974)
