Jean A. Strub, the daughter of Carl F. and Ruth (Cummings) Strub, was born May 19, 1920, in Iowa City, Iowa and departed this life on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Estherville, Iowa.

She attended school in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School in 1938. Jean graduated from the University of Iowa in 1942, where she was a member of the Pi-Beta-Phi Sorority.

On June 15, 1942, Jean was united in marriage to Leo E. Fitzgibbons in Iowa City. During World War II, they lived in Arlington, VA. The couple then made their home in Estherville. Leo died March 15, 2005.

Jean was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary. She was a dedicated volunteer in the community and in her children's activities.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Jean Fitzgibbons Weems and husband, Kerry of Clifton, Virginia; Patricia Fitzgibbons Anderson and husband, John of Long Lake, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Peter, Claire and Anna Weems of Clifton; brother, Carl F. "Bud" Strub, Jr. and his wife, Janey; sister, Ruth Swaner all of Iowa City, Iowa and many other beloved family members and friends.

Preceding Jean in death were her huband, Leo; parents; and sister, Barbara Norgaard.
