Mrs. Loren White, 83, Dies At Her Home
Mrs. Loren White, 83-year-old pioneer resident of Estherville, died last night at 6:45 in her home at 620 North Sixth street, where she had resided for more than half a century. She had been in failing health for the past two or three years with a heart ailment and had been confined to her bed since last November.

Mrs. White was born on May 10, 1864, at Holy Cross, In., moving from there to Castle Grove, Ia., where she received her education.

As a young woman she moved to Spirit Lake where she worked in the dress-making business until her marriage in 1892 [per husband’s obit, 1890] to Loren White. Directly after their marriage the couple moved to the present White home on North Sixth street. In 1944 Mr. White passed away and their foster son, Leo Turner and his wife, came here from Ypsilanti, Mich., to live and care for Mrs. White.

Mr. and Mrs. White had no children of their own but adopted Leo Turner, the son of Mrs. White’s brother, when he was a year old. Mrs. White was an active member of the Catholic church until ill health prevented active participation.

Survivors include Leo Turner, one brother, Michael Turner of Cedar Rapids and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Porter of Minneapolis, Mrs. Joe Kelly of Ayrshire and Sister Vivian of Sinsinawa, Wis. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Mary Turner of Seattle, Wash.; Irving Turner of Ann Arbor, and Dorothy Brackeen of San Antonio, Tex., and a great-granddaughter, Annette Anderson who lives here with Mr. and Mrs. Leo Turner. One grandson, Loren Turner, died in service. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and two brothers.

Rosary will be said at 8 o’clock Friday evening and requiem high mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Catholic church, Rev. Frank Brady officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 17, 1947)
