Estherville – Funeral services for Lucille Woods, 84, of Estherville will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Jerry Cosgrove officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with a Parish Vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Lucille was born on Sept. 2, 1917 in Estherville, the daughter of Michael J. and Rosanna (Dominy) Woods. She attended country schools and later graduated from high school in Gruver.

She then attended Estherville Junior College for two years. Lucille worked at the Emmet County AAA Office for several years and then at Holy Family Hospital for a time before entering the convent of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother.

After taking her vows as a nun, she went to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. where she worked as an accountant. In 1968, she decided to leave the order and worked as an accountant in a hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.

She retired and moved back to Estherville in the late 1980’s. In December of 1990 she entered the Rosewood Manor Care Center.

In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and watching sporting events. She was a gentle person and had many friends.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Lucille is survived by one sister, Alma Woods of Estherville; one brother, Bill Woods and his wife, Phyllis of Estherville; three nephews and six nieces and their families.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, John and Michael; one sister, Marie and two infant sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 3, 2001)
